ABOUT YORKSHIRE FUTSAL ACADEMY
Yorkshire Futsal Academy was formed in 2014 by James Mahoney who, after he achieved first class honours studying 'Sport Science with Professional Football Coaching' at Greenwich University in 2009 and since coached within professional football clubs , realised the greater need of opportunities for young players to play Futsal.
James set up Yorkshire Futsal Academy alongside various other roles within sport and in particular football. James is now in his 6th season at Barnsley FC as an academy coach. After coaching the U13's in the 2009-10 season he has since been responsible for the U9's and it is this role that has seen James achieve the most success. It is also this role that introduced James to Futsal and he now realises the importance and effect Futsal can have on the development of players at a young age. The best and most exciting players in the world at present all have something in common.... they all played Futsal when they were young! Messi, Ronaldo, Xavi, Iniesta, Oscar, Neymar... all attribute Futsal as a tool in their development.
Yorkshire Futsal Academy was formed simply as a development coaching session that any young player between the ages of 7-12 could access to improve their futsal and football ability.
The Futsal Academy has 2 key visions:
1.) Girls and boys between the ages of 7 and 12 have the opportunity to try a new sport in a fun and competitive environment. The Futsal Academy is designed to develop the technical, tactical, physical, psychological and social aspects of players so that they can achieve success not only in Futsal, but also other sports and environments.
2.) Players that play for local teams can access the Futsal Academy to further improve their ability and performances. This way local teams may benefit through their players attending the Futsal Academy.
